Lawyer Who Sued Led Zeppelin Suspended from Practicing

Last week, Led Zeppelin won the “Stairway to Heaven” plagiarism that had been filed against them. With minimal deliberation a jury deemed that they did not, in fact, copy the beginning of Spirit’s “Taurus” for the opening of “Stairway.”

Since then, Francis Malofiy, the lawyer who tried the case against Zep, has been suspended from practicing law, but not for presenting such shoddy evidence in the case against the rock legends. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malofiy violated “various rules of conduct” during a copyright infringement suit surrounding Usher’s song ‘Bad Girls,” and was suspended for three months for his misconduct.

The report also states that Malofiy received over a hundred sustained objections and “multiple admonishments” during the Zeppelin trial.

While the suspension only applies in the state of Pennsylvania, where the Usher trial was held, it could affect Malofiy’s work in California.
